ABOUT
BRIANNA REED
Brianna Reed is a 19-year-old actor, poet, musician, and writer of the screen adaptation of Sparrow. Brianna was immediately drawn to Sparrow’s story because it parallels her own journey through mental health and recovery.
At the age of 15, Brianna entered an intensive therapeutic program where she was first introduced to the transformative power of music through Rock to Recovery, an organization dedicated to healing through musical expression. Brianna found solace and strength by embracing music as a tool for emotional healing and self-discovery.
Fast forward four years, Brianna's transformation has taken center stage. In August 2023, she performed alongside Rock to Recovery for a benefit concert in Los Angeles - a full-circle moment for her. brianna has also formed her own band, the Blowing Raspberries.
With unwavering determination, Brianna aspires to share this inspiring story with the world in hopes that more people can see themselves in Sparrow, just as she did.

SPARROW
SPARROW
If timid were a person, it’d look exactly like Sparrow.
She’s smart and stubborn, but she’s quite the recluse and is always getting in her own way. She lives with her single mom in Brooklyn, where she’s conditioned herself not to take up any space; the last thing she wants is to be another burden. She spends her spare time with her nose in a book or her head in the clouds. She uses the birds as an escape when she struggles to cope with managing daily life and reconnecting with the part of herself she seems to have lost.
SHE finds herself opening up to Mrs. Wexler, the first person she’s felt understood by. Suddenly she’s not so alone anymore - until she is thrust back into her shell when mrs. wexler unexpectedly dies. Ill prepared and struggling to navigate her lonely world without her favorite librarian's guidance, Sparrow is forced to find a new flock elsewhere if she ever wants to fly again.

Sparrow's therapist
DR. KATZ
DR. KATZ
Imagine if the cool aunt at the family reunions was a therapist -
that’s Dr. Katz (AKA DR. K). Dr. K has an unconventional way of getting things done, but it’s proven to be effective as she slowly but surely peels back Sparrow’s layers. Dr. K is skilled in the art of uncomfortable silence and keeping her cool. Her subtle swagger makes her fun, but it’s her deeply insightful and understanding personality that gives her substance.
A Mrs. Wexler reincarnate, Dr. Katz will guide Sparrow but not hold her hand. She believes in Sparrow’s ability to grow. Her power to empathize with and heal the most complex personalities such as Donna and Sparrow is an impressive feat. She makes Sparrow feel seen and validated.
Sparrow's Mom
DONNA
DONNA
Though appearing perfectly put together at first glance, Donna is slowly falling apart at the seams as she tries to adapt to her daughter’s deteriorating mental health. There isn’t much Donna can’t fix, and she’s startled when she discovers her Sparrow is failing to do the same.
Headstrong and stubborn, Donna isn’t used to being told what to do and she doesn’t like the idea of her daughter’s new therapist telling her how to be a mom or that she might know Sparrow better than she does.
Donna always puts her best foot forward, and we see this in how hard she tries to mend her and Sparrow’s relationship. If tough love were a person, it would be Donna.
MRS. WEXLER
MRS. WEXLER
Sparrow's librarian
Sparrow’s first real friend at school, Mrs. Wexler is a stern but kind librarian with a soft spot for antisocial bookworms. she provides a sanctuary in the library away from the brutality that is the school cafeteria and spares Sparrow from eating lunch in the bathroom every day by opting in to eating in her office.
Though Ms. Wexler understands and provides a safe space for Sparrow, she is still motivated to push Sparrow outside of her comfort zone and try new things - even in death. Ultimately, Ms. Wexler introduces Gertrude Nix to Sparrow and convinces her to go.
Mrs. Wexler also has some wild stories from her past. Think Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society mixed with Grumpy Cat.
SPIKE
SPIKE
romantic lead / lead guitar
Spike is unlike anyone Sparrow has ever met.
Gertrude Nix’s camp is where Spike comes to life again. Spike is practically a one-woman band, a master of every instrument but thrives around her fellow bandmates at camp. She knows what it means to escape in music. Also being gay in a conservative town, she has a lot of experience with being "different." She and Sparrow find that they have more in common than they initially thought. However, unlike Sparrow, Spike is a powder keg waiting to explode - and somehow Sparrow has been tasked with the responsibility of diffusing her.
She’s the girl who will wait for you to finish tying your shoe while the group keeps walking, and sit with you when you’re eating alone in the cafeteria even though she doesn’t know you. Though her consistent efforts to connect are frequently rejected, Tori gives Sparrow the benefit of the doubt.
Eventually fed up with their one-way friendship, Tori decides it’s time for Sparrow to come to her. When she finally does, it’s worthwhile. Playing guitar in the band and having a natural talent at dancing, Tori is an exceptional artist and a fierce friend.
Outgoing and artistic, Tori sees Sparrow before Sparrow sees her.

A nervous and unassuming girl, Ivy makes fast friends with Sparrow - who also avoids confrontation at all costs. They’re like two ghosts haunting the same house. The house being Cabin Nina, of course.

A comedic team player, Lara is the drummer in Sparrow’s band at camp.

Though she does not find it in her questionable older boyfriend who lives nearby - she does through her bandmates. While getting to know the other girls, she experiences something she never has before - permission to be exactly who she is and… unrestricted access to pizza. It’s hard to tell which one she appreciates more.
